CAL Exhibition Website

Online Exhibitions Team

This page is dedicated to the team of volunteers that help put the exhibition page together online. Included are images, artist bios and links to their websites. Without exception these artists are very accomplished and CAL thanks them for giving their time.

Barbara Tabachnick

In former life I was a Professor of Psychology (statistics, research design, perception) at CSUN for 25 years and belly dancer (and costume maker) for 16 of those years. Currently I am an artist, consultant in statistics and research design, co-author of the most popular multivariate statistics book, traveler and swing dancer (on hold until virus permits). I’ve been in multiple juried local, national, and international group shows since 2004, with some prizes along the way. Solo shows (some shared) include those at the late, lamented, Orlando Gallery; Council Gallery of the NCJWLA; Madrid Theatre; and Artist Alley at Calabasas Tennis and Swim Center. I was twice invited to exhibit at Ontario International Airport. Current organizations include Collage Artists of America (website manager and soft techie), California Art League, Southern California Women’s Caucus for Art, LELA (Zoom secretary), and Encaustic Art Institute.

At heart I’m an experimental artist—“What will happen if…?” I work in acrylic, watercolor, encaustic, mixed media and digital photography at all levels of (occasional) realism and abstraction. Content, if any, usually relates to architecture and landscapes, particularly trees. I love to explore phone and computer apps – digital creation and manipulation of images provides hours of joy playing with my thousands of images. I make art because the process feels good and the anticipation of the outcome is exhilarating. My favorite works include a bit of whimsy, a touch of the incongruous, some ambiguity and, perhaps, a measure of beauty. To view more of my work, http://www.csun.edu/~vcpsybxt/Art.html

Judy Knott

Judy is a self-taught artist who began taking lessons in 2008 while working full-time as a program analyst in the medical field.  Upon retiring she started studying in earnest and went on to receive her Master Artist certification from Sacramento Fine Arts Center in 2016.  She has shown her work at the Crocker Art Museum, Marin Museum of Contemporary Art, Museum of Northern California Arts and Art Expo Dallas.  She has built her resume by competing in, and winning many awards in both local, national and international art shows.

Judy transitions easily between representational and abstract art although more recently has concentrated on the abstract arena.  When painting abstract compositions, she often lets collage lead the way and then begins the process of layering paint and hand-painted papers and fabrics.  She’s continued to explore and has begun using thread to combine both paper and canvas in her “abstract tapestries.”  Her artwork has been called painterly, inventive, fun and colorful, with a little wit thrown in on the side.  “I want to have fun creating my art and for those who see it to have fun as well.  I hope viewers will do the same thing I do when I finish a painting—smile.”

Lisa Martin-Hansen

Lisa Martin is an artist living in Long Beach, California who regularly volunteers for the California Art League. She enjoys painting with oil, gouache, soft pastels, and watercolors. She works both as a post-impressionist and with abstract/contemporary pieces. Her formal art education includes workshops with master artists, and she says she is influenced heavily by Lyn Boyer as well as Cézanne and Degas.  Lisa is inspired by the colors found in widely different environments where she travels -- from the desert brush and rocks, to ocean waves, in the cold snow of a Heartland farm, or along the Loire in France. She enjoys plein air painting as well as studio work. You can find Lisa on Instagram @LisaMartin.artist, the website tinyurl.com/LisaMartinArt, or connect on Facebook at Lisa Martin LLC Fine Art.

Susan Gesundheit

I am an artist in monotype, watercolor, acrylic, collage and encaustic.  I like to work in layers, textures, and expressive color. My drawings, paintings, prints, and collages explore the surface of a two-dimensional graphic world with an extensive range of color and texture. My subject matter takes from urban landscape, built environments, still life, human ?gure, and animal forms; the horse, in particular.

Oil and chalk pastels, watercolor, charcoal, sumi ink, printing inks, acrylics, are but a few of the materials I use on paper, canvas, and some alternative surfaces. I like to work experimentally, leading to many unexpected but happy outcomes!

Eric Renard

Eric M Renard (www.ericrenardphotography.com) is a Los Angeles based fine art photographer and creative director.  Born in New York, he attended school just outside the City. Eric spent his summers in Maine, where he was first introduced to photography and learned his way around a darkroom.  Eric’s passion for photography was reignited at Tufts University in Boston, where he studied under Siegfried Halus. After graduating, Eric moved to San Francisco and worked as an architectural photographer for a short period before moving to Los Angeles.
Eric’s unique exposure to both urban and rural life can be seen throughout his work, as he is equally at home in both environments. Usually working in black and white, his urban cityscapes and rural landscapes often reflect an eerie sense of peace and quiet, rarely portraying more than one or two people. Eric’s photography has been exhibited in galleries across the United States and Europe, receiving numerous awards. His work has been published in both books and photography magazines.

Kathryn Donatelli

Kathryn was the first in a very artistic family of 12 children and has been drawing and painting portraiture since she was 12 years old, producing several hundred drawings and paintings in her life so far. She received a scholarship to pursue a 3 year program in industrial art from the DuCret School of Art. In her early career she quickly worked her way up to creative director for retail publications. Kathryn's aptitude for color and design kept her gainfully employed in the publishing business but she never lost sight of her desire to be a fine artist. In 1986 Kathryn relocated to Los Angeles from New Jersey. In just a few short years after moving to the west coast Kathryn left the publishing business and set up her own fine art company. Her portraits and self portraits have been exhibited in juried shows from New York City to Los Angeles including a national juried show in Soho, New York. She has contributed her original paintings, hand painted ceiling murals, wall murals and borders to Showcase Houses in Pasadena and Hancock Park. She designed, painted and installed over a dozen Private, Corporate and Public murals and has illustrated 3 children's books.  Kathryn is a member of the California Art Club and the California Art League.
